From Salesforce to surf boat sponsorship

Idea Science helps Seacliff surf club stay competitive


The team at Idea Science is used to giving businesses a competitive edge through marketing and technology. Now, they’re helping the boaties at a South Australian surf lifesaving club gain a competitive edge too.


A three-year sponsorship deal between Idea Science and Seacliff Surf Life Saving Club has allowed the club to buy a new surf boat for its members, and Seacliff SLSC Vice President Glen Patten hopes it will help pave the road to seeing the club represented at a national level.


“From not competing (a few years ago), we’ve built up to at least six crews… but we had aging surf boats and the need for modern equipment to be more competitive,” Mr Patten says.


“Surf boats are a very expensive item and while we have a restaurant and raise money through other sources, during COVID we had to adjust our business for quite a while.”



Seacliff SLSC members are overjoyed with their new surf boat, made possible thanks to an Idea Science sponsorship.



When Idea Science reached out to discuss a sponsorship opportunity, it seemed like a perfect fit between the two organisations, who share similar values.


“The sponsorship has been a godsend – the money raised by the restaurant and Idea Science has covered the cost of the new, beautifully detailed craft which is now being rowed by the crews,” Mr Patten says.


“It’s in great condition and moves through the water beautifully. It’s going to last us for many seasons to come.”

Founded in 1930, Seacliff SLSC is one of the oldest surf lifesaving clubs in SA, celebrating their 90th season of patrolling the beach in 2019/20 – 2020/21.


Of the 700 plus members they boast, up to 50 are now involved with the surf boats and are ready to represent the club across several categories, from juniors and women’s teams to masters and opens.


Idea Science CEO Peter Drum says his team is excited to be actively supporting a volunteer organisation that gives so much back to the local community in South Australia.


“At Idea Science we’re always looking to support our local communities, and Seacliff SLSC is a wonderful fit,” Mr Drum says.


“Our surf life savers all round Australia spend a huge amount of unpaid time to keep us all safe and healthy, while also having a positive effect on community and social engagement. The club has impressed us immensely with their family environment – so we’re huge supporters and delighted to be able to show that through our support.
